Bruni to Receive 2018 Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award

Pensacola, Florida, January 22, 2018: Michles & Booth attorney, Antonio Bruni, is the recipient of the 2018 Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the 1st Judicial Circuit (Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Walton counties).

The award recognizes Bruni’s volunteer work on behalf of poor and underprivileged clients and proves that talented lawyers can advance their careers while still providing meaningful pro bono service to the community. This award will be presented at the 2018 awards ceremony scheduled for Thursday, January 25, at 3:30 p.m. at the Supreme Court of Florida.

A prime example of Bruni’s volunteer work is the special assignment he completed with the Legal Services of North Florida, a non-profit agency that provides civil legal assistance throughout 16 counties in the Florida Panhandle.

In 2016, they tasked Bruni with putting together a seminar to teach attorneys how to take a Social Security disability claim from application through appeal to a hearing with an administrative law judge.

Bruni put together a comprehensive yet practical guide on handling both adult and child disability claims, covering everything from jargon used by Social Security workers to the cross-examination of vocational experts at an actual hearing.

Bruni continues to help Legal Services of North Florida, working at Veterans Stand Down events and sharing his knowledge at every opportunity.

What is the Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Awards?

Established in 1981, The Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Awards serve two key purposes:

  1. to encourage lawyers to volunteer free legal services to the poor by recognizing those who make public service commitments
  2. to raise public awareness of the substantial volunteer services provided by Florida lawyers to those who cannot afford legal fees

The Florida Bar will recognize 21 lawyers for their work on behalf of poor and underprivileged clients at the 2018 awards ceremony scheduled for Thursday, January 25, at 3:30 p.m. at the Supreme Court of Florida. Watch it live at http://wfsu.org/gavel2gavel.
